Tips for Good Prints
When printing images at large sizes, achieving a clear print can be more complicated than when printing small images. Here are some simple tips that will help you avoid bad prints.
- Use the original image file if possible. Images downloaded from social media sites like Facebook or Twitter, for example, have been downsized for those services. They will not print as clearly as the original photos.
- Generally, the larger the file size, the higher quality the image. For example, a photograph that is 500kb will most likely not look as sharp as one that is ten mb.
- A photo cannot be enlarged without losing quality. Staff can resize photos, but if scaled up too far, the photo will become blurry.
- More pixels means a bigger image. Knowing your image’s pixel dimensions will give you a sense of how large it will print without blurring. For example, because we print images at 300 pixels per inch, an image that is 10,800 pixels wide will print clearly at 36” wide.

Frequently Asked Questions
I don’t have a library card. Can I still use all the services listed above?
We provide all these services to people regardless of whether they have a library card or not besides 3D Printing. We can sign you in as a guest to our computers. If you would like to 3D print something, you must have a library card with SGCLIB.
I’d like to print something off the computer; how do I go about that?
We have public computers available for use in the library; they are all connected to our printer! We just need to sign you into a computer at the front desk. While informal, one thing we also do since discontinuing our printing service Princh is that you can also email the documents you’d like printed and we will print them off for you ourselves!
Can I print something off my phone?
At the time, we currently don’t have a software program capable of printing from the phone. Your best course of action is to attempt to get whatever is on your phone onto your computer to print; the most common method is simply just to email it to yourself and then log into your email on the computer.
How do you calculate the prices for these services?
Our prices are based purely on the cost of providing the service. Our goal for providing a lot of the printing/miscellaneous services is simply to break even, and we expect nothing more.
Does it cost anything to use the computers to print something off?
Nope! Our computers are completely free to use.
What size paper can you print?
We can print 8.5 x 11 and 11 x 17, and with the large format printer, you can print 24-inch wide or 36-inch wide posters!
Can I print using my own paper? (for example, colored or custom embroidered paper)
Yes, you can! As long as it works with our printer, we can do it! We recommend sticking with either 8.5 x 11 or 11 x 17 for the assurance we’ll be able to use your paper size. If you bring your own paper, we only charge half price for the service.
