Our Genealogical Department

Being a part of such a historic town, our genealogical department is deeply important to our community. From family histories, to newspapers from the 1800s, or anything else;  our genealogical catalog is flush with information. 100% of our items are donated by the public, and open for all to view. If we can’t help you find what you’re looking for, we recommend either asking for help on the Ste. Genevieve Genealogy Facebook group, or reaching out to the Foundation for Restoration of Ste. Genevieve for more information! Just click on either of the images below!

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can utilize the genealogy department?

Everybody is welcome to look at our collection! We just ask that you be careful with the materials.

I’d like to take some items home to look at them further, can I check them out?

We do not allow any of our genealogical materials to leave the library, we apologize for any inconvenience.

I’d like to print what I’m viewing on the microfilm machine, can I do that?

You absolutely can! Only one of the two machines is able to print, and the computer is a bit slow, but you can print what you view on the microfilm!

I’d like to look at the microfilm, but I have no idea how to use the machines; is there any way I can learn?

We have multiple people on staff familiar with the microfilm machine who can help you figure it out. The best time to find assistance with the genealogy department is around Monday through Friday between 9 and 4.
